An extension of Smallpox hospital ruins with a void inspired by the empty shell of its walls.
The Smallpox hospital is the oldest building in New York, its condition being emphasized by the presence of the newly constructed Roosevelt Memorial by Louis Kahn.
The project creates a cover for protection that extends and covers a piazza in front of the hospital, adding necessary spaces for the museum.
The “addition” typology is used not with volumes, but with an open space/ a void.
